King’s Island

Howdy ya’ll…

Last weekend me and Curt Drove the 7 hours to visit King’s Island in Mason, OH.

Me and Curt arrived on Friday, and while Curt rested up in our hotel room, I ran over to the park to look around.    It was still a bit rainy, and I thought I might just get a feel for the layout.  Once there I saw they had most of the park up and running so I headed over to Invertago (See pic), From there I walked over to Adventure Express, got the froInvertagont car and “D” a local guy hoped in with me, for the rest of the night “D” and I were ride buddies.   Since the park was getting dark and I had no idea how it was laid out, “D” suggested we hit Vortex, fount seat again, then on to The Beast the world’s longest wooden roller coaster for the last 30 years, (in the dark no less, it was amazing!), then I convinced “D” to hit up Diamondback he was somewhat worried about this but I convinced him it would be cool, it was pretty sweet. (Behemoth is better though)

Son Of Beast

Nearing10 (Park closing) I and “D” ran  Brady Bunch style

(race starts at 2.10) across the park to jump on Son of Beast for the last ride of the night, Son of Beast is the tallest fastest wooden coaster in the world, everyone had warned me about how rough is was, I actually found it better than CW’s MineBuster.  And with the closing fireworks going off it was a great ending to a unexpected night at the park.

To be Continued….

Spring has Sprung?

Today on the way home from the Gym (As I looked at the 3M grounds for Ground hogs) it occurred to me, spring is indeed here. While the calendar told me that last week, it really doesn't mean much. The real signs are there, the Mustang Drive-In opened last weekend; Cedar Point is putting there trains back on the tracks (51 days till they open); my dad just picked up a Canoe and a kayak which I look forward to taking out a few times this spring and summer. Spring is one of those things that makes you stop and think about what the next few months will bring to you, I have to plan what I am going to plant in the garden this year, and take the opportunities to get outside and enjoy the weather when it allows. So while it isn't time to hang up the winter coat yet, soon it will be and I look forward to that day!

Visit to Mom And Dads

Yesterday, I went to visit Mom and Dad and to take them both out to Costco, to do some shopping. I got to drive there New Ford F-150 truck crew cab which was much nicer to drive than I had expected, and over all I was impressed which was a surprise for me.

We managed to spend almost 900 bucks at Costco which was pretty impressive to me, but we did buy a tonne of stuff. As per the usual at Costco they gave us a hard time at the till since my parents aren't members and after the hard time, my mom said she wouldn't join.

Dad is looking to pick up a kayak and a canoe, to do some boating this summer, and I am really looking forward to spending some time with him out on the water, I remember doing it with him as a kid and I had forgotten how much I really enjoyed it as a child. I was a Sea Scout for a few years, and did a few trips up and down the creeks and such with my Dad as well. If I enjoy his kayak as much as I think I will I may pick up my own so I can use it at the conservation area around the corner. If Curt enjoys it as well I may pick up a canoe instead so we can go out together.

The Ghetto Goodlife is the Goodlife for ME!

For those of you that don’t know in addition to going coaster crazy,  last September, I joined Goodlife Fitness.   Not my 1st attempt at working fitness into my lifestyle it has been the most successful.   I started taking the fitness classes they offer, (Mostly the Lesmills ones for more info see http://www.lesmills.com/ ) I can say that I have enjoyed them a great deal.   I am now up to about 5 a week, including; Body Pump, Body Step, and RPM (Which is a killer spin class).

I joined the closest club,  the Argyle Mall location, which in my opinion would be the ghetto Goodlife, why ghetto?  Well it is old, they equipment is comprised of castoffs from the other clubs, the sound system in the group fitness center is often skipping, not working or generally just craptastic.   I can certainly go to any other Goodlife in town, but I don’t want to.  The people at my club are the best the instructors are amazing, the other people in the classes are friendly and welcoming, and I really enjoy the whole experience.   On occasion I will head to the “Flagship club” at Galleria Mall downtown, and I will be faced with snotty people and lots of attitude, nice equipment, but really to me a bike is a bike and a treadmill a treadmill.

I have enjoyed the classes the most, I have become stronger, leaner, and they have helped me a great deal with sleeping problems brought on by my evil grave shifts at work. My co-workers think I am crazy for taking a fitness class after I am done a 10 hour shift but, it makes me sleep like a baby.   It has like the theme parks has helped me deal with stress which is a great benefit, so while I don’t think joining a gym is great for everyone, I know it has been great for me!

What is this place all about?

Well what to say?

I guess I should start with the what am I all about thing and explain the title of my blog.

Well I am a 32 year old guy living in London, ON. I work for a crown corporation as a cashier. I have been happily with my partner Curt for the last 6 years. I have quite a few hobbies, some of which you can find in my profile.

The reason for the title "Boblo Land" has to do with many childhood memories, and with the a recent family heath crisis. When I was young our family would travel to Aherstburg and take the Ferry across to Boblo Island Amusement park. One of my earliest memories of my father (who was recently diagnosed with Lung cancer) was him going with us and him getting horribly ill on the pirate ship. The memory of this event got me thinking about all the time I had been to the park and how much I enjoyed the rides and the feeling of freedom I got from them. So last summer in the words of some of my co-workers I went Amusement park crazy. (I will make another post about Boblo later as it certainly deserves its own place here.) I have found visiting the amusement parks very therapeutic in many ways, it is very easy to forget about your worries when you are whipping thought the air pinned to a roller coaster train, it has been a great way for me to blow off stress.

So this year I have made plans to visit several "Local" amusement parks (Cedar Point, Canada's Wonderland, King's Island), as well I have booked in for a 12 day trip to the West Coast with www.themeparkreview.com which I am very excited about.
